KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah told the Sindh Assembly on Monday that the European Union (EU) had committed a grant of 39 million euros over a period of four years to assist the Sindh Education Reform Programme, for which an agreement was signed on November 22, 2006.
Shah said the first tranche of 9.5 million euros was expected to be released in the financial year 2007-08; however, after the EU delegation visited Sindh on September 3, 2007 and expressed concern over deviation from the agreed parameters in respect of the recruitment of teachers, the release was delayed and the amount was not disbursed until August 29, 2008.
