LAHORE: The Punjab Labour and Human Resources Department will set up 300 schools at brick kilns in Lahore and Kasur to provide educational facilities to more than 10,000 children and provide micro-credit facilities to brick kiln workers.
Provincial Labour Minister Muhammad Ashraf Khan Sohna said this during the inspection of schools set up at brick kilns at Jallo and Wagah by the Pak-Swedish Teachers’ Association.
He said the government was committed to curbing the menace of bonded labour and had launched a comprehensive programme for the socio-economic uplift of kiln workers.
He said the government had also allocated Rs40 million to provide micro-credit facilities to kiln workers, especially women, during the current financial year. More than 5,000 workers would be provided small loans under the scheme, he said.
