Islamabad-The local community has played an effective role during the present wave of terrorism and strengthened the policing in the capital, said Inspector General Police Syed Kaleem Imam here on Saturday.
He was addressing the award ceremony held to honour the citizens who helped the police in arresting a suicide bomber near Rawal Dam. ICT Chief Commissioner Fazeel Asghar, and DIG Binyameen were also present on the occasion.
The awards were given to Syed Ahmed Abbasi, Muhammad Ilyas, Sajjad Hussain, Tahir Ashraf, Shahzad Hussain and Muhammad Faheem who had helped the police in arresting a terrorist along with suicidal Jacket.
The chief commissioner and the IGP awarded them with class-1 certificate along with Rs5000 cash to each of the citizen.
The chief commissioner exhorted the citizens to join police in weeding out terrorists form the capital.
The IGP reiterated that Islamabad Police would utilise all available recourses for the protection of citizens. He thanked the citizens for their cooperation in arresting the terrorists.
