LAHORE: The Government College University (GCU) Endowment Fund Trust (EFT) on Wednesday announced initiating 21 scholarships for deserving students to be funded by the donations made by GCU alumni and various other philanthropists. According to a press release issued by the GCU, the scholarships will include 11 golden and 10 silver scholarships.
“A golden scholarship covers the university fee as well as hostel expenses of a student while a sliver scholarship covers the university fee only,” GCU EFT Executive Committee Secretary Khalid Manzoor Butt said.
The scholarships are being initiated on the special directions of GCU Vice Chancellor Dr Khalid Aftab.
Butt said the GCU Financial Aid Committee will evaluate students on the basis of academic merit but added that they would be strictly need-based.
He said the vice chancellor himself has already donated
Rs 500,000 to initiate these scholarships.
Other scholarships include three by the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, three by Iqbal Z Ahmed, one by Bank Al Habib Limited, two by Infaq Foundation, one by Allied Bank of Pakistan and one by Mian Misbaur Rehman.
