ISLAMABAD, The governments of Pakistan and China have jointly decided to establish at least 10 Pak-China Friendship Schools in Islamabad. The agreement was reached in a meeting between the Minister for Education Mir Hazar Khan Bijrani and Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Lozohaee who called on him.
The matters pertaining to the Pak-China educational cooperation were discussed in details.
It was consensus on both the sides that in future more stronger and cooperative projects will be initiated for education sector in Pakistan.
Pakistan and China are currently offering cultural exchange programmes as students of both the friendly countries are studying in each other’s educational institutions.
China is offering almost 100 cultural exchange scholarships, which will be enhanced in the days to come.
The Minister told the ambassador that during the visit of President Asif Ali Zardari it was promised that Chinese firms working in Pakistan will offer scholarships to Pakistani students and asked the ambassador to make necessary coordinative efforts in this regard.
The ambassador was apprised by the minister that in Pakistan the government is implementing new education policy very soon. The new policy aims at providing free education up to the secondary level to all and sundry in Pakistan.
While advocating the importance of technical education the Minister said the concept of knowledge-based economy can only come true when sufficient number of technical trained individuals are available.
The Minister further said the government believes in providing equal opportunities to both male and female students in the country.
However, the peoples’ government aims at providing special initiatives for the students of far-flung areas where educational facilities do not exist up to satisfactory level.
The ambassador while appreciating the efforts of the government of Pakistan invited the Minister to visit China and study the Chinese education system.
