LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed has directed the Punjab schools secretary to appear on Thursday (today) for not complying with court orders in a corporal punishment case.
The judge also sought a detailed inquiry report and original record of the case from the Punjab Education Department and the Liaqatabad station house officer (SHO). The judge on October 21 had ordered the executive officer (education) to conduct an inquiry against the teachers responsible for torturing Wishal Khurram, a Class 9 student of the Government Progressive School, Model Town, besides taking action in this regard.
The girl’s grandmother, Touqir Fatima, moved an application on Tuesday, alleging that the department had reversed the transfer orders of the school in-charge and teachers responsible and had reappointed them in the same school, keeping aside court orders.
She requested the court to take action against the officials concerned for not complying with court orders. In her earlier petition, Fatima alleged that two teachers – Kousar Perveen and Shugufta Shaheen – had tortured Wishal. She said she had approached the principal of the school, but no action was taken against the teachers. She also alleged that the school principal, Tahira Siddique, was working illegally in the capacity of a BS-19 official, while her original grade was BS-17.
