LAHORE: A high-level meeting at the Governor’s House on Monday discussed the establishment of the “Guru Mukhi School” for Sikh children in Model Town.
The meeting was attended by District Nazim Mian Amir Mehmood, Evacuee Trust Property Board Chairman Asif Hashmi, Sikh Parbandhak Committee President Sardar Bishin Singh, Sardar Ameer Singh, Sardar Jaswinder Singh and Sardar Atar Singh.
Addressing the participants, Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer said Islam is a complete code of conduct that gives priority to humanity and preaches respect for minorities, adding the government is trying its best to provide all possible facilities to the minorities. Taseer said the minorities in Pakistan are patriotic and enjoy freedom to live according to their faith.
It was unanimously decided in the meeting that the school would be established in the Model Town Housing Society (MTHS) while the land would also be granted by the society. Its construction would be facilitated by the ETPB. Taseer also directed the ETPB chairman to refurbish the Model Town gurdwara at the earliest.
Sardar Bishin Singh thanked the Punjab governor, the district nazim, the ETPB chairman and the MTHS president, saying the government was trying its best to protect the rights of the minorities and provide them maximum facilities.
