ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said following the life and teachings of Holy Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon Him) was the only way to succeed in life and confront the challenges Ummah was currently facing. Inaugurating the 33rd National Seerat Conference, the Prime Minister said internationally the great religion of Islam was facing serious criticism because of certain acts of individuals who had severely distorted its image.
He said acts of intolerance, inflexibility, sectarianism, militancy, killing on the name of religion and all similar negative tendencies had taken over the soft, peaceful and humane image of Islam.
Gilani said it was a serious issue that needs to be discussed and necessary measures taken to remove this negative perception. He said Islam in fact was a religion for the entire humanity and preached tolerance, brotherhood and peace. Violence has been always abhorred by Islam and never permitted.
“The Muslims today are in a decline in social, political, educational and religious spheres. The entire Ummah reflects a decay in fields of military, economy, culture, science and technology and those who deny basic human rights.”
He said the analysis was not based on facts and the international media too was painting a negative picture of the Muslims, due to certain vested interests.
Gilani however pointed that the Muslims too were in part responsible for the decline the Ummah was facing.
“Had we not ignored the universal message that preached dignity of humanity, equality, justice, tolerance and truth, as preached by our great Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), we would not have faced the current difficult situation,” the prime minister said.
He said only if today the Muslims sincerely start to adhere to the teachings that focus on respect for humanity, socio-economic justice, they will succeed in all spheres of life and would usher in an era of peace.
Gilani said the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) through his universal message portrayed peace and security for the entire humanity and end of warfare and violence were its important ingredients.
Prime Minsiter Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said under the teachings of the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him), wars were unavoidable in certain conditions, but the objective always was to ensure everlasting peace and security of the world at large.
He said the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) also gave a message of universal brotherhood, where there were no differences of caste, creed, religion or sects. There was no divide between the Muslims and the non-Muslims and the message was to ensure them security to their lives, property and respect to their way of life.
He said today it was vital that the Muslim nation practically demonstrates these great values to the entire world and show that respect for humanity is the cornerstone of Islam.
Gilani said the Holy Quran is the complete code of life and imparts education for all. He said the great Caliphs; Hazrat Abu Bakar Siddique (RA), Hazrat Umar (RA), Hazrat Usman (RA) and Hazrat Ali (AS) had complete command over the greatest book of all times to come and imparted its teachings by setting up educational institutions.
The education culture promoted by Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) did not discriminate between religious and formal education as His message encompassed all spheres.
The Prime Minister said the government has embarked upon a program to end discrimination between different types of education being imparted at the madaris and formal schools.
He said the up gradation of religious schools will generate a generation that is adept in all types of education and can face the challenges ahead.
The Prime Minister said the Seerat conference was an important event to pay tributes to the great personality of Holy Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him) who brought a message of universal love for the entire humanity.
He termed it an honour to attend the function and noted that late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was the pioneer of Seerat Conference that began in 1976. The Prime Minister also greeted those who were awarded prizes for their articles and books on Seerat.
Minister for Religious Affairs Hamid Syed Kazmi said the life and teachings of Holy Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him) were a beacon of light and only by strictly adhering to them the Ummah can succeed in this life and the one hereafter.
He said the greatness of the Holy Prophet ( peace Be Upon Him) was not that he just led a simple life, but it was in the fact that despite having opportunities to have all the riches and facilities of the world, he chose to practice a life that served as an example. He said the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) was a living example of what the Holy Quran taught.
Dr Mujahid Kamran in his key note address on “Concept of universal civilisation in the light of teachings of Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him)” said the concept of Oneness was the main ingredient around which the entire universe revolved and by pursuing it all challenges could be encountered.
