NEW YORK: No matter how much criticism Vancouver is taking for it’s weather, the British Columbian city takes the title as the world’s most livable city, according to a new poll.
The survey, conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit, marks the second consecutive year Vancouver, the host of the 2010 Winter Olympics, has topped the list. While, Karachi is 136th in the list of 140 cities.
According to the Economist, each city is scored on a scale of 0-100 on 30 factors in five areas: stability, health care, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.
Vancouver scored 98 points. However, the city is taking heat for its rainy weather in the run-up to the Winter Games, which kicked off Friday night.
The city that’s least livable: Harare, Zimbabwe, with 37.5 points.
As the magazine explains: “These rankings are used by employers assigning hardship allowances as part of expatriate relocation packages.
